FSRI
The Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), part of UL Research Institutes, advances fire safety knowledge to address today’s unresolved risks and emerging threats. As a key component of UL Research Institutes, we are dedicated to sharing our findings and expertise to further UL’s public safety mission—creating safer living and working environments for people everywhere. Through advanced fire science, rigorous research, and extensive outreach and education efforts, we work in collaboration with an international network of partners. Together, we provide stakeholders with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to make informed, fire-safe decisions—ultimately saving lives and protecting property. Today, FSRI plays a vital role in a multidisciplinary approach to safety science within UL Research Institutes (ULRI), collaborating closely with our sister institutes to address global safety challenges. Our research focuses on several key areas: firefighter health and safety, the wildland-urban interface, battery fire safety, data science, fire modeling, materials, and fire dynamics. Our partnership with the fire service remains central to our mission and continues to grow in response to the ongoing hazards firefighters face. We’ve also expanded our collaborative model to engage a broader range of stakeholders, including fire investigators, fire protection engineers, academics, government agencies, industry leaders, safety educators, and the public.
